Our Favorite Tennis Racket/Ball Set for Kids Age 5 and Under
For parents looking to get their kids involved with tennis from the get-go, we recommend Babolat’s Ballfighter Kit. The 17 inch child’s tennis racket comes with either 3 or 24 foam balls. The blue and orange racket is ultra light (2.5 ounces), meaning your child can start practicing full strokes right away. One of our favorite things about this racket is the “Memogrip” system which reminds kids where to hold the racket for forehands and backhands. It’s available on Amazon here.
Our Favorite Tennis Racket for Kids Age 5-6
The HEAD Speed 21 is our recommended racket for this age group. The 21 inch child’s tennis racket is light and extremely durable. Even if your child tends to scrape the ground with their racket when playing tennis, the strong aluminum frame means the racket should last until outgrown. HEAD’s red racket weighs 6.3 ounces, allowing for fast reactions and adjustments when practicing net-play (volleys). It’s available on Amazon here.
Our Favorite Tennis Racket for Kids Age 7-8
For kids age 7-8 we are huge fans of the HEAD Speed 23. HEAD makes really good children’s rackets which have a history of high-quality (they’re also not too expensive) This 23-inch kids tennis racket is very similar to the HEAD Speed 21. The only difference is the weight (6.7 ounces) and the length (23 inches). The grip size is slightly larger as well. The racket comes in a neon yellow color, and is light and durable—a.k.a. kid friendly! You can find it on Amazon here.
Our Favorite Kids Tennis Backpack
The Babolat Classic Club Line Tennis Backpack is our top pick. We recommend it for kids age 7-12. The pack comes with 3 total compartments. It can hold one to two rackets, along with a substantial amount of other gear. One of our favorite features of the Babolat backpack is the racket handle cover. Only a select few backpacks include a protective zip-over like this one. One reason kids go through rackets and grips quickly is because their racket handles get dirty and beat up. The Babolat handle cover makes this a non-issue. Read our kid’s tennis backpacks guide for more information. You can find this backpack on Amazon here.
Our Favorite Kids Tennis Shoe
The NikeCourt Jr. Vapor X is our most recommended kid’s tennis shoe. The shoe features a dynamic fit system, breathable mesh, a herringbone outsole pattern, and supportive overlays. The shoe structure is designed to fit well and minimize blisters. The NikeCourt Jr. Vapor X is available in sizes that fit kids age 5-12, and it comes in a huge variety of colors. While it may not be ideal for children with wide feet, this Nike court shoe checks all the boxes for most kids. Read our full NikeCourt Jr. Vapor X Review, or find it on Amazon here.
